LAAATE

So this would be a late post since I promised to update continuously on Mondays and Thursdays. What can I say, I got kinda sick/tired yesterday plus forgot all about updating in between watching Heroes, and beating Fable II (beat it!). My bad. So I made more CK comics, which look so much better in the sketchbook than they do scanned. Poor excuse but it's totally true.

I'm still trying to come up with a real cool name as opposed to Cathy but not because Cathy is a bad name. The character would just benefit from a name that's exotic enough that readers don't associate or relate toooo much with her. I have some names in mind so if I ever ask you which names you like best, it's all for research purposes.
I can honestly admit that I like this character quite a bit; it's a really open character who allows for a lot of different venues and genres and can touch on a lot of mature subjects (although it'll probably be mostly immature and the mature things will be handled lightly).

-I'll come up with more to update again for Thurs!

Cancelled shows

Ever watch Mission Hill, Undergrads, or Clone High (respectively the three pictures below)? They were all awesome shows cut down in their prime, canceled after one season each.

Mission Hill was on the WB a few years back that had some radly stylized animation. The stories were ridiculous, the characters were ridiculous, but it was awesome. Interestingly the city in which all the characters reside is never fully known, and numerous conflicting hints are given throughout the season.

Undergrads was this great show that represented collegiate life really well (stereotypes and all). Sure it leaned more towards nerdiness than some would have liked, but its first season accurately portrayed freshmen life to the T. Also interesting, the city in which the various colleges are based in is never really revealed either.

Clone High is just amazing. There really is no other way to put it.

So without telling you what these shows are about (so you don't have any false expectations about what they're like) I suggest you go watch one if not all of them.

My my

Well it certainly has been a while (I think I typed the exact same thing last post). For those loyal fans of artsyfarts out there, I plan on updating this blog bi-weekly from now on on Mondays and Thursdays. Not only will you get to read my somewhat nonsensical ramblings, but I'll get to practice art and post awesome links full of radness.

Today's post stems off a conversation I had with CK who suggested I do another comic. Void of any good ideas on hand, I had her do a mad lib which ended up looking like this: "(noun) (past tense verb) the (noun) with a (noun) while (verb) (noun)." Open for a great amount of interpretation non?

CK's answer turned out like this, "Bollocks whipped the cat with a chair while snorting wire."

At a loss for words I could only come up with these related strips based on a little girl's crazy uhh...adventures:

Frankly I think CK makes a great character and have nice plans for her in the future (maybe ones not as weird as these strips).

BTW, Adventure Time will be showing on Cartoon Network sometime in the future!
For those of you who don't know what Adventure Time is, it is a show created by Pendleton Ward about the adventures of a boy and his dog. Check it out on youtube because it is epic coolness.

Persepolis

All I have to say after such a long hiatus is, Persepolis.
Go read it. Then go watch it. Or vice versa. Either way, you will eat it up like a fat kid on cake.

ARRRRG

Photoshop is a giant pain in the buttocks and I may never use it to color anything again. Every time I try to color something it somehow compresses all the different layers into one, effectively blending everything into the background. Then in order to keep colors consistent I have to color the entire comic with paint bucket. And btw, coloring with only paint bucket not only is a crappy way to color, but also bleeds into outlines sometimes ruining the entire drawing. As a result, the art comes out a lot worse than it could have. ARG!

The "9 Old Men"

It was a really weird, roundabout trail that led me back to bowing to the greatness of Disney's big 9. I had just finished reading Blue Pills by Frederick Peeters (which is very excellent and highly recommended) and was researching European comics.
I was remembering the awesomeness of Vampire Loves (the English name), and thought the same artist from that book also worked on Aya (alas it was not true). A semi-related link in a Google search led to an amateur artist's website who mentioned the recent passing away of Ollie Johnston. And now here we are poring over samples of their work and remembering the many films they all had a hand in; ranging from Pinocchio to The Rescuers. IMHO, these guys are the definition of classic animation.

Been Busy

I've been pretty busy this past week, especially these last two days. I won't say with what so as not to bored you to death but it was pretty important.
Here's one of the finished images from the Apples story; it's actually a remake of the previous drawing shown in the previous post.

Whoa Snap

So 3 years later the 1st strip of the webcomic is done! Yay!There are a number of problems with the first comic, some very aptly pointed out by Phil. First, it's kinda tough to see what going on in the first 3 panel because scenes is just too far away. Second, Chris's head has a weird perspective coming out of the car. Thirdly you can't really tell Dom is shooting Phil in the leg, let alone has a gun in his hand. Fourthly what is that other thing in Dom's hand? Fifthly the sound effects are bad. Maybe I just criticize my own work too much, but I was in a rush drawing this late at night :(

Here's a preview panel of the Apples story for your enjoyment. I hate resizing images.

Coming attractions

EDIT: MORE CONTENT ADDED ALONG WITH SOME WORDAGE
Which one doesn't belong? Also, compare the rough sketch to the partly done/colored comic. Had some problems with the inking process, don't really wanna talk about it. But to put it out there, the first three panels shouldn't be so pixely and crappy looking.

-Really!
