ARRRRG

Photoshop is a giant pain in the buttocks and I may never use it to color anything again. Every time I try to color something it somehow compresses all the different layers into one, effectively blending everything into the background. Then in order to keep colors consistent I have to color the entire comic with paint bucket. And btw, coloring with only paint bucket not only is a crappy way to color, but also bleeds into outlines sometimes ruining the entire drawing. As a result, the art comes out a lot worse than it could have. ARG!

It's not really that big of a pain once you learn to use it.

Try changing your brush settings, which should allow you to color freely and keep a consistent color.

Alternately, you could use the lasso tool (I like the polygonal one) to click and select the area you want to color and then fill it with the paint bucket. With the polygonal lasso tool selected, click to place points and hit backspace to remove them. I like to work on a layer below my line art so that it doesn't really have to be a perfect selection.

I hope this helps. If you have any questions, just let me know.
